Digital Literacy and Identity

 My name is Sekar Ayu Anidita from class XI-7. This writing is a form of completing Ms. Wiwin's assignment. 

Digital Literacy is the ability to navigate the digital world. Digital literacy is essential for anyone who is on the internet. It prevents us from getting misinformation and dirtying our digital footprint. Digital footprint is a history of what we have done on the internet. A good digital history does not contain hate and misinformation, instead, it contains privacy boundaries and being factual. Digital footprints are often used to judge a person's moral and reputation, such as in job interviews. 

Since the pandemic happened, naturally many people spend much more time on the internet. This phenomenon without enough digital literacy will be a negative impact on the user. Because of insufficient digital literacy, many people get misinformed and polluted by misguided views. From my own observation, since a few years ago digital literacy has been on a decline. Perhaps, because the amount of people on the internet hugely increase and there are not enough education about digital literacy. 

Digital literacy has some ties to identity. Someone with good digital literacy will not reveal their identity carelessly. There are many hackers on the internet that can trace your identity and sell them without your consent. Crimes related to doxxing, publishing of private information, are on the rise. 

I am sure many of us look up to people from the internet. Those people who we often call internet celebs mostly have good digital footprint. Of course, they also have good digital literacy. When an internet celeb makes a mistake, they will tarnish their digital footprints and reputation.

 What you do defines who you are. 

Us teens live in a time where we are mostly online. Many of us are still searching for our identity. The things we see, and the ones we act out can shape us. Digital literacy is very important for us because it prevents us from bad influence. Many people regret their doings from they were young that tarnished their digital footprint. That is why we should practice digital literacy from now on.
